Jeanne Ely of Mulberry, Florida, won amateur Best of Show at the 2005 APC Crisco National Pie Championships with her Pina Colada Pie. The same pie took first place in the Cream category, and her Ultimate Strawberry Pie placed third in Fruit/Berry. The APC published the winning recipe.

The crust cuts butter-flavored and regular Crisco shortening into flour and salt, bound with egg, cold water and vinegar. For the filling, Coco Goya piña colada mix, coconut, drained crushed pineapple, rum extract and sugar are boiled two minutes and thickened with cornstarch dissolved in pineapple juice. Once cool, it is folded with Cool Whip, spooned into the shell and chilled three to four hours.
