Oral histories
Give testimony.
The archive is recording conversations with the people who keep pie in the record: bakers, judges, families, growers and organizers. Recorded testimony becomes part of the archive.
Competition bakers
You have entered the National Pie Championships or a state or county fair pie contest, in any division.
Judges
You have judged pie at a fair or a championship and can describe the procedure and the score sheet.
Bakery families
Your family runs, or ran, a pie bakery, a diner known for its pie or an orchard stand that sells it.
Pie suppers and socials
You remember a pie supper, box social or pie auction: who baked, who bid and what the money was for.
Heirloom recipes
Your family's pie has a recipe card, a church-cookbook entry or a story longer than its ingredient list.
Growers
You grow the fruit, nuts or sugar that go into a regional pie: apples, tart cherries, marionberries, Key limes, pecans, sweet potatoes.
How it works
Interviews run thirty minutes by phone or video. Subjects review their testimony before publication.
To give testimony or put someone forward, write to the archive with your name, your connection to pie and where you are.
