Patricia Lapiezo of LaMesa, California, won amateur Best in Show in 2015 with Chocolate Buzz Pie. The APC’s 2015 category results list the pie first in Open; its Best in Show table gives the pie’s flavor as Chocolate Cream. Her name appears in APC amateur results from 2005, when she won the Citrus category with Double Lemon Cherry Marble Pie.
The winning pie
A crust of finely ground dark chocolate Milano cookies and Oreos with melted butter is baked eight minutes. The filling melts semisweet chocolate with coffee ice cream and miniature marshmallows and folds in sweetened whipped cream. A coffee topping of cream cheese, white chocolate, melted coffee ice cream, instant espresso and whipped cream goes on top, with chocolate espresso beans if desired.
