Jennifer Nystrom of Clarksville, Ohio, won amateur Best of Show in 2018, out of 185 pies, with Chocolate Caramel Turtle Sundae Pie, first in the Guittard Chocolate Cream category. Snack and Bakery reported she had competed for nine years and entered seven pies that year, earning four ribbons.
The winning pie
A chocolate graham cracker crust is coated with Guittard 66 percent semisweet ganache, then a layer of caramel with chopped salted peanuts. The filling whips cream cheese, cream, vanilla and sugar with the remaining ganache. Piped whipped cream, chocolate and caramel drizzles and chopped peanuts finish it.
